Budding Young Journalists Visit Parliament for Exclusive Interview with Roz Savage MP

Aspiring young reporters Lily and Kira stepped into the heart of British politics as they toured Parliament and interviewed South Cotswolds MP Roz Savage.
The duo, who write for The Jackdaw, Malmesbury’s much-loved community magazine, explored the historic halls of Westminster before sitting down with Roz to discuss life as an MP, climate action, and her record-breaking adventures as an ocean rower.
Lily, aged 10, and Kira, aged 11, arrived with their fathers, Oli and Tim, alongside Jackdaw Editors Richard Harris and Andrew Griffen. Their interview will feature in the Spring edition of The Jackdaw (week commencing 28th April), bringing readers a fresh perspective from the next generation of journalists.
Reflecting on their visit, Lily and Kira said:
“We think meeting Roz was an incredible experience that we will remember forever. Being shown round the Houses of Parliament was a great privilege and really interesting. Roz inspired us with her fabulous stories of ocean rowing, and it was kind of her to answer all of the questions from us and our classmates about being an MP.”
Roz was delighted to welcome the young reporters, emphasising the importance of youth engagement in politics and journalism.
"It was an absolute pleasure to meet Lily and Kira and to see their enthusiasm for storytelling and current affairs. Their insightful questions show just how important it is to encourage young people to explore politics, ask bold questions, and use their voices. I can’t wait to read their piece in The Jackdaw and see where their journalistic journey takes them next!"
Encouraging young people to engage with politics and journalism creates opportunities for fresh ideas and new perspectives. With their curiosity and enthusiasm, Lily and Kira set a great example of how young voices can contribute to important conversations in their communities.
